Keynote Speaker—Dr. Dan Arvizu

Well-known for his expertise in energy management, technology commercialization, and market-based solutions, Dr. Dan Arvizu is the Director of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the department's premier facility for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development.

As one of the nation's leading experts on energy technology, Dr. Arvizu understands the importance of making renewable energy technologies available to the marketplace.

Dr. Arvizu has more than 30 years of leadership experience in both the public and private sector. Prior to joining NREL, he worked at CH2M HILL as a Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, and spent more than 20 years as an executive directing research for advanced energy technology, material and process sciences, and technology commercialization at Sandia National Laboratory.

In 2004, Dr. Arvizu was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the 24-member National Science Board. This prestigious body is the governing board of the National Science Foundation, and its members serve as national science policy advisors to the President and U.S. Congress.

Named "One of the 50 Most Important Hispanics in Business and Technology" by Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine, Dr. Arvizu has served on a number of other boards and advisory committees, including the Technical Advisory Board of the G8 International Renewable Energy Task Force. He also served on the Department of Energy's National Coal Council and the Department of Defense's Army Science Board.
