Water Management Opportunities
Justin A. Spenillo, U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency
Water Management is a vital component of an efficient
laboratory. Although the cost of water currently does not make paybacks
on water projects attractive, the truth is that environmentally
and economically, water is a valuable resource that must be managed.
Over the past three years, EPA has been assessing water management
at its facilities nationwide. During this process, numerous water
management opportunities, often with significant savings, have been
discovered during the course of a 1-2 day visit. This presentation
will summarize a number of these opportunities as a way to share
what we have learned.
Labs21 Connection:
This presentation is noteworthy as it presents "lessons learned"
collected over three years and over 15 laboratories visited. Viewers
can be assured that they will walk away with knowledge of how to
better manage water at their facility and/or have a specific project
which they can implement at their facility. The principles of the
Labs21 Approach are evident in that it promotes one element, water
management, of a sustainable facility. By promoting water management,
the ideals of minimized environmental impact, building sustainability,
and efficiency are simultaneously supported.
