Opening PlenaryJuan Enriquez
Juan Enriquezscholar, businessman, and best-selling authoris
the world's preeminent authority on the economic and political impacts
of the life sciences. As the founding director of Harvard Business
School's Life Science Project, and founder, chairman, and CEO of
Biotechonomy, a life sciences research and investment firm, Enriquez has an extensive
background in the economic, social, and political forces that effect
change in today's world.
Enriquez is the author of several global bestsellers, including
As the Future Catches You: How Genomics & Other Forces are
Changing Your Life, Work, Health & Wealth, and The Untied
States of America: Polarization, Fracturing, and Our Future,
which explores why some countries are successful, while others disappear.
In addition, Enriquez was part of the 2004 world discovery voyage,
led by Craig Venter, who sequenced the human genome. The multi-stage
sailing voyage sampled microbial genomes throughout the world's
oceans and led to the discovery of thousands of new forms of life.
Closing PlenaryKevin Hydes
With more than three decades of experience in the building services
industry, Kevin Hydes is a leader in the field of sustainable design.
Committed to improving building performance through green engineering
and innovative design, he currently serves as Chair of the U.S.
Green Building Council and sits on the board of the Canadian
Green Building Council. He is also President and CEO of Keen
Engineering.
As an industry leader, Hydes distinguishes the importance of having
buildings work with the environment. This idea led to the development
of Keengreen, an environmental design division within Keen, created
to find innovative ways to design environmentally sensitive buildings.
Hydes has been on several advisory committees including the City
of Seattle Sustainable Regain Initiative, the U.S. Federal Department
of Architectural Energy Conservation & Environmental Initiative,
and he also served as a Juror at the 1996 and 1998 Architecture
+ Energy Design Awards in Portland.
