On October 17-19, 2006, more than 550 architects, engineers, federal employees, laboratory owners, facility managers, and other laboratory professionals gathered at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, to discuss the latest in sustainable laboratory design and construction at the Labs21 2006 Annual Conference.

Juan Enriquez captivated conference attendees during his Opening Plenary keynote address on Tuesday. Mr. Enriquez's presentation focused on the need for all countries, particularly the U.S., to promote science, technology, and the education of both, in order to keep pace with our dynamic global society as it continues to move deeper into the information age. In contrast to the technical detail presented throughout the conference, Enriquez challenged laboratory professionals to think holistically about what a laboratory would look like in a future where information dominates.

This year's conference offered more than 50 technical presentations, plus seven Breakfast Sessions and four "Roll Up Your Sleeves" Roundtables, which gave design teams the opportunity to lay out their new laboratory designs and receive advice from technical experts in the audience.
