Sustainable chilled beam ideas, installations and lessons learned

In this technical session we will show how at the University of Washington School of Medicine Phase 2 over 900 chilled beams were installed 3 years ago. We will highlight how they were conceptualized, what EH&S standards had to change, how the users had to change how they worked, benefits of them, the added cost to the construction budget, estimated versus real paybacks and lessons learned. And when we started designing Phase 3 the lessons learned from phase 2 plus new ideas were brought forward into the design and construction of the chilled beams.
Biographies:
Andy Clinch brings over 16 years' experience as an architect and designer in the science and technology sector. His projects include University of Washington School of Medicine Research phase 2 and 3.1, Omeros Research Labs and Corporate Headquarters, Dendreon Headquarters and a large Medical Educational University in Saudi Arabia.
Brian Antonsen is the Life Sciences Business Unit Manager at McKinstry. Brian has been with McKinstry for nearly 10 years, and in the construction industry since 1995. In his role, Brian focuses on lean preconstruction delivery practices for Life Science clients across the Northwest. Brian's most notable projects include UW Medicine (South Lake Union Phase 1-3), Seattle Biomed, PATH, and Novo Nordisk. Brian leverages McKinstry resources across the design, build, operate, and maintain cycle of project delivery to ensure achievement of project goals.
