Considerations when Contracting for BIM as a Facility Management Tool

Matthew Petermann, Perkins+Will

Quite often the design team and to a lesser extent the construction team are concerned with geometry/graphics of the building. However as we step toward the use of a BIM for FM the graphics become of a smaller importance compared to the information about those elements that take up space. The need for product data, as-built layouts, serial number, warranties, and excess stock needs to be easily access and highly organized for the maintenance and operations team.  This presentation will take a look at the process of organizing the contract and capture of information outside of a typical design or construction process.
