Application of Performance Standards in Design of Sustainable Laboratory Exhaust Systems

There are several new and recently revised standards of induced flow fans for laboratory exhaust systems. Sound levels and airflow performance can significantly vary from the published test data if critical engineering design principles are not followed. In addition, site conditions can have a tremendous impact in the direction and magnitude of the sound generated by these systems. Plenum and duct configurations can also impact the sound generation and energy consumption. The standards for induced flow fans along with important engineering principles can be utilized to design of safe, quiet and energy efficient laboratory exhaust systems.

Biography:

Charlie Gans has worked for Strobic Air for 20 years, designing a variety of fan impellers and air moving systems, and currently holds the title of Vice President of Global Sales. He is listed under several patents for acoustical abatement equipment. Charlie serves on the AMCA committee for AMCA 260, Induced Flow Fans. He maintains a Professional Engineering License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is a LEED® Green Associate. Charlie holds several degrees from Pennsylvania State University including a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, and a Masters in Business Administration with a concurrent Master of Science in Information Science.
