Water and Waste

Amorette Getty, Materials Research Laboratories, UCSB

Solid and liquid materials enter and leave laboratories at high volumes and in a wide range of forms. The Water and Waste sections break down the types of materials which flow through a lab environment, and provide best practices related to minimizing the consumption and maximizing the life-cycle use and safe handling of each kind of resource and effluent.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of the liquid and solid materials that come into a laboratory and the wastes that are produced in laboratory processes.
  • Finding the responsible parties, educating, and developing solutions together.
  • Learn how to develop, monitor, and manage a materials management plan.
