Laboratory Renovation Strategies -Sharing and Saving
Peter Gardner, Torcon
Steven Kessler, Torcon
If you are looking to see how projects are run at all types of organizations, and then bring back some new strategies for project implementation, then this session is for you.
Attendees will share their experiences in getting smaller projects started, funded and completed.
Pariticipants will share how sustainability can be included in these smaller projects and what the criteria are used to make the jump to obtain LEED Certify or get into the Energy Start portfolio manager program.
Attendees also will be encouraged to present unique approaches to project delivery that can help other I2SL participants deliver projects efficiently.
The facilitators will describe the different methods for delivering small projects. Durations and cost control topics will be covered and then attendees can share their experiences.
Cutting edge technologies such as BIM will be also be reviewed. Attendees will share their experiences with BIM on small projects and define what parameters are needed for success.
Learning Objectives
- Attendess will be able to describe different project delivery methods including design-build, traditional design-bid-build, integrated design, cost plus and guaranteed maximum. Use of third party owner agents will also be reviewed.
- Attendees will be able to understand criteria for when is it appropriate and advantageous to get your lab renovation project LEED certified and what resources are needed to achieve this goal. Expected durations and approaches such as two phase LEED submission will also be discussed.
- Small project teams can struggle with the decision to implement BIM. Sometimes small projects are a great place to start and sometimes a full scale commitment is made by an owner organization.
