The Security of High Containment Laboratories

Guy Collyer, Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI)

As a response to the anthrax attacks in the U.S. in 2001, the U.K. government created legislation to include a section on the security of pathogens and toxins in the U.K. In the eight years since this event, the development of new laboratories that are likely to house high-consequence substances has changed dramatically.

This session will focus on the following key stages:

  • Concept stage considerations
  • Pre-build site security
  • Marketing your project
  • Public disclosure/document security considerations
  • Media strategy
  • Threat assessment
