Eli Lilly and Company Biotechnology Development Laboratory Building 362
Wednesday September 23
Labs21 2009 Annual Conference attendees had the opportunity to tour the recently completed Biotechnology Development Laboratory (Building 362) at Eli Lilly and Company, whose headquarters campus is located on the edge of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. The new 477,000 square-foot laboratory was completed in 2007 and is part of a larger Eli Lilly expansion project aimed at creating a pedestrian-oriented campus. The building provides laboratory, office, and conference space for scientists engaged in drug development. Its u-shaped design allows for a central interaction space with circulation and amenity spaces, and a four-story open stairwell links the building's four floors together. The facility has several different sustainable features that will be showcased on the tour, as well as high-performance equipment from Phoenix Controls, Strobic Fans, and Aircuity. Controlled Environmental Systems represents these companies and provided support during the equipment's installation in Building 362.

Tour guides for the event were provided by Flad Architects and Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI), the architecture and engineering companies for the facility, as well as Eli Lilly and Company. Transportation was provided to and from the event, and a pre-tour reception was held at the facility. Prior to the tour, conference attendees were invited to learn more about Eli Lilly and Company's Building 362 during a one-hour conference technical session, presented by representatives from Eli Lilly, Flad Architects, and AEI.
