Application of Advanced Lighting Control Strategies in Laboratory and Healthcare Facilities
Russ MacAdam, Lutron Electronics Co.
This presentation will be based on lighting control strategies we have implemented in health care facilities that not only meet the functional light requirements for the spaces but also offer opportunities to integrate the information and controllability of these systems into the building energy management and security systems. This connectibility allows for additional energy-efficiency opportunities, including demand responsive programs as well as enhanced information regarding space occupancy and temperature that can be used by the safety systems in the facility.
Biography
Russ MacAdam is a
director of product development at Lutron Electronics Co. He was
part of the team that developed the first dimming ballast for compact
fluorescent lamps and drove the development of many of Lutron Electronics Co.'s energy-saving
ballasts, controls, and systems, including Lutron Electronics Co.'s new LED driver family.
Mr. MacAdam speaks several times a year on LEDs and the Lutron LED driver
family at industry events and tradeshows. Mr. MacAdam is a graduate of
Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering
and an Master of Engineering in electrical engineering.
Mr. MacAdam has been a respected presenter within the electronics industry for most of his 19 years at Lutron Electronics Co. Combining expertise in his subject matter with an engaging manner, he is able to communicate the intricacies of the latest lighting technologies to audiences of engineers and specifiers who may be at different levels of experience. Past seminar topics include "The Future of Lighting Control" and "Controlling LEDS to Meet Customer Expectations." Mr. MacAdam returns to Cornell University each year to lecture on "Modern Lighting Systems" as part of the Energy Engineering Seminar Series. In addition, he has taught "Fluorescent Lamp Physics and Ballast Design" at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
As a member of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association's High Performance Building Council, Mr. MacAdam is working to ensure that information about lighting and energy standards reaches the commercial building community. His expertise in the areas of fluorescent lighting and total building controls are an asset to the commercial lighting industry.
