AstraZeneca's Global Energy Management and Sustainable Design Initiative

AstraZeneca R&D Boston will present a sub-metering case study in support of the Company's global energy management and sustainable design initiative. The presentation will encompass the business drivers, the site's definition of sub-metering, selection and agreement of appropriate metering levels, and the evaluation of an energy management dashboard tool. Along with energy management, business drivers will include improved reliability and efficiency, enhanced energy forecasting capabilities, and reflective assessment of infrastructure utilization in support of benchmarking and future design initiatives. The evaluation process will include stakeholder management, formation of a metering master plan, identification and selection of metering hardware and software technologies, and development of the final business case. The overview will include examples of metering applications, prioritization of applications, and management tools utilized during the project.
Biographies:
Kevin Carmody has been engaged in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries for the past 20 years. He presently serves as the Senior Manager of US Engineering at AstraZeneca R&D Boston, where he is responsible for discovery and infrastructure capital projects as well as infrastructure and laboratory design. Kevin represents AstraZeneca US in global efforts to further develop common design guidelines for laboratory buildings and HVAC systems. He also represents the site on the AZ US energy team. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in the design, construction, and start-up of the company's award winning R&D facility and follow-up expansion projects. The latest expansion project, D & E Buildings, included both office and laboratory buildings that received LEED Gold status.
Bruce MacGregor has been working in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries for the past 17 years. He is presently employed at AstraZeneca R&D Boston as a Facilities System Specialist where he is responsible for project and technical support for the facilities and engineering departments. His background is in computer controlled equipment and management systems including Building Automation, Security and Fire Alarm. Bruce represents the Boston Facilities department in the site energy team and the North America energy team within AstraZeneca. His current responsibilities have him working on the development and installation of the site metering plan and the energy management dashboard tool.
