Get a glimpse of some of the highlights of the Labs21 2010 Annual Conference.

From September 28 to 30, 2010, nearly 700 architects, engineers, federal employees, laboratory owners, facility managers, and other laboratory professionals (394 KB, 1 pp) gathered to discuss the latest in sustainable high-technology facility design and construction at the Labs21 2010 Annual Conference. The conference was held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

 


 

Some attendees arrived on Monday to take a workshop. Others arrived on Tuesday for the start of the formal conference proceedings.

Dr. Jonathan Trent, a senior scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center, delivered an engaging keynote address on using algae as a fuel source as part of the Opening Plenary Session that formally kicked off the conference.

 


 

Technology Demonstrations, a new and popular feature at this year's conference, allowed exhibitors to explain and demonstrate industry tests, standards, and procedures.

Exhibitors in the Labs21 2010 Technology and Services Fair, including these Schneider Electric staffers, welcomed visitors to their booths.

 


 

Attendees could choose from more than 50 technical sessions, symposia, and roundtable discussions, including this one led by Labs21 Team member Geoffrey Bell.

Well-attended sessions provided attendees the chance to learn from industry leaders about a variety of laboratory sustainability topics.

 


 

Posters provided another venue for information exchange at the conference.

The Technology and Services Fair Evening Reception provided an ideal opportunity to network; visit exhibitors' booths; and enjoy live music, food, and drinks.

 


 

Morning Roundtables allowed attendees to discuss ideas in a more informal and interactive setting than in the technical sessions.

A tour of the newly opened New Mexico Scientific Laboratories facility on Wednesday night gave attendees the opportunity to see the inner workings of this state-of-the-art laboratory. Attendees could also elect to tour Sandia National Laboratories on Monday night.

 


 

The Go Beyond Awards Luncheon wrapped up the conference on Thursday. At right, the winners pose with their plaques, from left to right Dwayne Willmer (Individual Award), Birgitta Foster (Organization Award), Tom Checksfield (Equipment Manufacturer Award), and Punit Jain (Individual Award).
