BIM as a Decision Support Process: Directions for BIM Development

Biography:
Jim Jones is a professor of architecture, director of the Ph.D. program in Design Research (Blacksburg campus), and director of the Center for High Performance Environments in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. Dr. Jones holds a Masters of Architecture and Ph.D. in architecture from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Jones has nearly thirty years of research and teaching experience related to environmentally responsive buildings and design decision-making. He has more than 100 publications and conference presentations related to building design and performance assessment for energy efficiency and systems integration. He is a member of both the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers and the American Institute of Architects. He has conducted sponsored research for the U.S. Department of Energy, the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, the Honeywell Corporation, the Rehau Corporation, and the American Institute of Architects, to mention only a few. His recent work involves knowledge capturing and process mapping for the purpose of developing new decision support tools using BIM as a platform.
