General Conference Information

What were the official Labs21 2012 Annual Conference dates?
The Labs21 2012 Annual Conference was held Tuesday, October 2 through Thursday, October 4, 2012.

Pre-Conference Training Sessions and an offsite evening tour of Stanford University's Lokey Stem Cell Research Building and Forsythe Data Center were held on Monday, October 1.

Can I receive Continuing Education Credits for attending the Labs21 Annual Conference?
Yes. Conference and workshop attendees are eligible to receive Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for professional engineers and Continuing Education Credits (CECs) from the American Institute of Architects for registered architects.

Green Building Council Institute (GBCI) Continuing Education Hours toward the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED^®) Credential Maintenance Program are available for select pre-conference training sessions. Select the workshop you attended from the list on the Pre-Conference Training Sessions page, then scroll down to the bottom of the workshop page. If GBCI credits are offered for that course you will see the GBCI CMP logo.

For conference sessions, and for pre-conference workshops without the GCBI CMP logo, attendees can self report their hours to GBCI.
What tours did you offering this year?

I²SL hosted offsite evening tours of Stanford University's Lokey Stem Cell Research Building and Forsythe Data Center and the University of California, Santa Cruz, Biomedical Sciences Facility.

We offered several pre-conference training sessions on Monday, October 1, 2012.

Where did the Labs21 2012 Annual Conference take place?
The Labs21 2012 Annual Conference was held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, located in downtown San Jose, California.

Where could attendees stay while attending the conference?
I²SL reserved a block of rooms at the San Jose Marriott Hotel, which is conveniently connected to the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.

Could attendees bring their spouse/family to the conference?
Attendees were encouraged to bring family on their trip and I²SL offered several options for family members while the attendee is at the conference.

There are plenty of things to do in and around San Jose, and we encouraged attendees to make a vacation out of their trip.

What was the cost to attend the Labs21 2012 Annual Conference?
Regular attendee registration fees varied depending on when you registered.

Discounted attendee registration was available to speakers, exhibitors, federal employees, groups, and students. Technology and Services Fair tickets were also available.

What was included with a registration?
Registration included some meals, refreshments, admission to conference sessions and events, and other items. View the full list of what is included.

Was I eligible for a registration discount?
If you registered on or before July 13, 2012, you received $100 off of your conference registration fee. In addition, some attendees were eligible for additional discounts.
Could I register for a Pre-Conference Training Session even if I was not planning to attend the conference?
Yes. To register, attendees filled out the conference registration form as they would normally. Attendees selected the course(s) they would like to attend, but did not select any of the options under "Conference Registration."
Was it possible to see just one person speak or attend the conference for just one day?
Attendees were highly encouraged to attend the entire event so that they would not miss out on important information. However, if they could only attend for one day, they could contact I²SL for one-day registration instructions.

I²SL did not sell admission to individual sessions.
Were press passes available, and if so, what was the attendance fee?
Complimentary press passes were available to members of the media who wished to attend and report on the conference. A media kit was provided.

Was there Internet access during the conference?

Guests in the conference room block in the San Jose Marriott Hotel received complimentary Internet access in their guest rooms.

Wireless Internet was not available in session rooms or the exhibit hall.

Exhibitors could order internet in their booths.
Were public computers available?

I²SL and Labs21 did not provide communal computers for attendees. However, the San Jose Marriott has a Business Center for hotel guests on the first floor.

Who exhibited at the Labs21 2012 Technology and Services Fair?
Several organizations showcased their sustainable laboratory and high-tech building equipment and services during the fair.

What could an attendee do at the Labs21 2012 Technology and Services Fair?
Attendees could browse the booths, view cutting-edge products, and network with exhibitors and other attendees. In addition, select exhibitors presented Technology Demonstrations―educational presentations in the exhibit hall that feature an exhibitor's equipment. These demonstrations gave attendees the chance to see how various industry tests and procedures are performed, and showcased sustainable technology in action.
