Thank you to everyone who attended the Labs21 2008 Annual Conference in San Jose, California! Nearly 800 attendees and more than 65 exhibitors, and with representatives from more than 15 countries took part in this event.

Conference Highlights

• Labs21 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Public Works and Government Services of Canada (PWGSC). The document solidifies PWGSC's commitment to sustainable solutions and energy-efficient choices for laboratories wherever possible.
  
  
• In addition to the technical sessions, conference attendees participated in several open discussions to provide input and create dialogue on a variety of subjects.
  
  
• Thank you to this year's keynote speakers:
  • Dr. Marcia McNutt, President and CEO of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute
  • Dr. Chris Field, Director of the Department of Global Ecology, Stanford University

  • The Santa Clara County Crime Laboratory
  • Two of Silicon Valley's Most Innovative Data Centers: NetApp and Sun Microsystems

2008 Go Beyond Award Winners

New to the 2008 conference were I²SL's Go Beyond Awards, which honored individuals, projects, or organizations that excel in their efforts to become more sustainable and "go beyond" the status quo to achieve energy-efficiency. The awards were presented during the Labs21 luncheon on Thursday, September 18. View winners featured in the November 2008 issue of the Laboratory Design Newsletter.
