Where and when did the Labs21 2011 Annual Conference take place?
The Labs21 2011 Annual Conference was held Tuesday, September 20 through Thursday, September 22 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.

Pre-conference training workshops and an offsite evening tour of Brown University's Sidney E. Frank Hall for Life Science were held on Monday, September 19.

Where could attendees stay while attending the conference?

I²SL reserved a block of rooms at the Westin Providence Hotel, which is conveniently connected to the Rhode Island Convention Center. All rooms in the block were at the prevailing government per diem rate of $122 per night (plus tax).

Can I receive Continuing Education Credits for attending the Labs21 Annual Conference?
Yes. Conference and workshop attendees are eligible to receive Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for professional engineers and Continuing Education Credits (CECs) from the American Institute of Architects for registered architects.

Green Building Council Institute (GBCI) Continuing Education Hours toward the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED^®) Credential Maintenance Program are available for select pre-conference workshops. Select the workshop you attended from the list on the pre-conference training page, then scroll down to the bottom of the workshop page. If GBCI credits are offered for that course you will see the GBCI CMP logo.

For conference sessions, and for pre-conference workshops without the GCBI CMP logo, attendees can self report their hours to GBCI.

What tours were offered this year?
I²SL hosted offsite evening tours of Brown University's Sidney E. Frank Hall for Life Science and the University of Rhode Island's Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences. There was also an afternoon tour of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Atlantic Ecology Division Laboratory.

What workshops were offered this year?

I²SL offered a number of 2011 pre-conference training workshops on Monday, September 19, including three new courses. These workshops covered a spectrum of topics from understanding the basics of laboratory performance to specifics like sub-metering and benchmarking, lighting, commissioning, ventilation, and laboratory equipment.

What could an attendee do at the Labs21 2011 Technology and Services Fair?
Attendees could browse the booths, view cutting-edge products, and network with exhibitors and other attendees. In addition, select exhibitors presented Technology Demonstrations―educational presentations that feature an exhibitor's equipment. These demonstrations gave attendees the chance to see how various industry tests and procedures are performed, and showcased sustainable technology in action.
