2013 Receptions and Offsite Tours

During the 2013 I2SL Annual Conference, participants had the opportunity to visit some unique and sustainable high-tech facilities and network with other conference attendees.

  • University of Minnesota Tour, Monday, September 23
  • Technology and Services Fair Evening Reception, Tuesday, September 24
  • 2013 I2SL Annual Conference Closing Reception, Thursday, September 26
  • Monday, September 23, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
    • University of Minnesota's Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Building and Wallin Medical Biosciences Building

The Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Building, built in 2013, and Wallin Medical Biosciences Building, built in 2009, are part of the University of Minnesota's Biomedical Discovery District research campus. These buildings include chemistry and biology laboratories, laboratory support, office space, a large vivarium, shared instrumentation spaces, and meeting space. The project followed the Buildings, Benchmarks & Beyond (B3) Guidelines set forth by the Minnesota Legislature, utilizing energy recovery wheels to pre-heat or pre-cool outdoor air, reducing the load on the preheat and cooling coils. Other sustainable features include daylighting, run-around loop heat recovery, solar shading, stormwater and water reclamation, and a green roof system.

    • University of Minnesota's Physics and Nanotechnology Building

      • The Physics and Nanotechnology Building contains 43,000 square feet of modern and highly flexible physics and other laboratory support space and more than 15,000 square feet of nanotechnology space, which includes a 5,000-square-foot cleanroom designed for class-100 chip fabrication and class-1000 bio-nanotechnology work. In total, the facility will contain 40 new research laboratories. The project site is located adjacent to the existing engineering and science buildings on campus, allowing close connection to other University of Minnesota science and engineering disciplines.

  • Tuesday, September 24, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, September 26, 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    • The closing plenary reception wrapped up the event, providing one final chance to say goodbye to attendees and exchange contact information. The Refer a Friend drawing for a free 2014 conference registration was also held. Attendees were served light refreshments and an I2SL Board of Directors member offered brief remarks.
